Minna is originally from Finland but lives in Sweden and works for Sandvik. She has a pacemaker and before the device was installed, exertion could leave her breathless, dizzy and she could easily faint.

The pacemaker helps Minna's heart to beat with a steady rhythm and allows her to do what she enjoys most – leading an active life which includes swimming, long walks, dance classes, and other physical activities.

Did you know that the pacemaker is a Swedish innovation?

Life in the "normal" lane

We have met four people, all using medical devices that gave them a new normal life. We want to tell you their stories. How joy was brought back into their lives.

A pacemaker is a small device which helps the heart to beat at a steady pace. If pauses between the beats are too long, or if the heart beats too slowly, it can leave you breathless, dizzy or even feeling faint. A pacemaker has two parts: the pacemaker box which includes a microcomputer with battery and the electrodes which sense the heartbeats and when needed, send electrical impulses that make the heart contract. The electrodes are inserted via the vein below the collarbone and connected to the heart.
